Building on Our History

Our greenhouse has been at the heart of the market garden for all of my life, and more than half a century. My dad had it built in the late 1960s, and earlier this year he commissioned refurbishment work to keep it fit for the future.
The work began while he was still alive, but sadly he died before it was completed.
My dad was not only my father, but also my friend, mentor and colleague. He was a constant presence in and around the greenhouse, overseeing operations, carrying out repairs, propagating plants, watering, and keeping a close eye on progress.
The greenhouse may now be looking better than it has for years, but it will never feel quite the same without him.
Dad spent more than 70 years as a market gardener, earning a reputation for the exceptional quality of the vegetables and plants he produced. He was also an early adopter of biological pest control, moving away from chemical pesticides at a time when such methods were far less widely used.
I was fortunate to learn from his lifetime of experience, and the high standards he taught me continue to guide everything I do.
Although he is no longer here to work alongside me, his knowledge and influence live on in the market garden. I strive to maintain the same high standards of care and quality that he upheld throughout his working life.
As we look ahead to the 2027 growing season, I hope to continue building on everything he taught me and to continue making him proud.
Although winter is fast approaching, the work of a grower never stops. Inside the greenhouse, young green shoots and seedlings are growing into the quality plants that will eventually find their way into your gardens.
We are currently growing on our final batch of seedlings for this year and looking forward to introducing more varieties in 2027.
