True Wild Cowslip (Primula veris) – 3 UK-Grown Plug Plants

These are genuine native wild cowslips, Primula veris — the traditional British meadow wildflower, not the large-flowered coloured bedding primroses or garden hybrids. Their beautiful nodding yellow flowers, carried above rosettes of crinkled green leaves, are a welcome sign of spring and a valuable early source of nectar for pollinators.

A taste of English history

Wild cowslips have a long history in traditional country cooking. Young leaves were eaten in spring salads or cooked as greens, and the fragrant yellow flowers were used in old-fashioned cowslip wine, vinegar and other recipes. Their use reaches back into the world of medieval herb gardens and country cookery.

Growing your cowslips

Plant in a sunny to lightly shaded position with reasonably well-drained soil. These hardy perennial plants are ideal for cottage gardens, wildlife areas, borders and meadow-style planting. Water after planting and while they establish.

What you receive: 3 young cowslip plug plants, grown at our small nursery in Derbyshire. The photograph shows the true wild cowslip in flower; the plugs supplied will be younger plants.

Limited trial release: Five packs of three plants are available initially (15 plants in total). £9.99 per pack of three, including Royal Mail Tracked 48 postage and packing within the UK. At checkout, select FREE Standard delivery — your cowslip plants will be sent by Royal Mail Tracked 48 at no extra charge. The separately priced delivery upgrade is not needed.

If using as an edible flower, identify the plant correctly and use only material raised for food use and free of unsuitable treatments. People sensitive to primulas should avoid eating them. Never collect wild plants for sale.
