Sea Kale is a rare and unusual perennial edible plant traditionally grown for its tender spring shoots, striking blue-green foliage and masses of pollinator-friendly white flowers. Once established, plants can live and crop for many years, making them ideal for permaculture gardens, forest gardens and edible landscapes.

A hardy British native coastal plant with excellent drought and wind tolerance once mature.

Sea Kale can be challenging and slow to germinate from seed, so buying established young plants is a much easier and more reliable way to get started.

Growing Information

Sea Kale prefers a sunny position and well-drained soil. Plants develop deep roots and dislike being moved once established, so choose a permanent position where possible.

Allow plenty of space as mature plants can become large over time.

Plants are posted carefully packaged to protect them during transit. Orders are sent using Royal Mail Tracked 48 with free UK postage included.

Where possible, we use letterbox-friendly packaging sizes to help avoid missed deliveries and delays in the postal system.

As plants are living items, size and appearance may vary slightly depending on the stage of the growing season.

About Our Plants

All plants are grown by us here in the UK on our small Market Garden in Derbyshire from seed or propagation stock — we do not import plants or buy in plug plants for resale.

We carefully pack orders using recycled and recyclable packaging wherever possible. Apart from a small amount of parcel tape and repurposed thin plastic bags used to protect roots in transit, our packaging is paper and card-based and biodegradable.
